| The Kentucky
Junior Academy of Science (KJAS) began in 1932. It was established
by A. M. Peter of the University of Kentucky and Anna Schneib of Eastern
Kentucky State College. Membership in the Junior Academy originated
with high school students who were interested in science. The first
meeting of the Junior Academy was held on May 19, 1934 in Berea with 500
students and teachers attending. The Kentucky Junior Academy of Science
originally had 310 student members from nine science clubs. |
